Sacred Heart Church in Troy is having a Vocations Workshop for young people on January 8th!
Christ the King Church in Albany is beginning a monthly Labyrinth Prayer Experience for Vocations from 7:30-8:30 pm on Thursday, January 18 and every 3rd Thursday of the month after that.
St.Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill is having a Prayer Service for Grades 6-8 of the Faith Formation Program.
St. Henry's in Averill Park has started a Vocation Cross Program where parishioners take turns to pray for vocations during the week.
Holy Family Church in Albany has much to share! . . . Holy cards and pamphlets are left there as well as craft activities for children. The activities generally relate to what is happening in the church calendar. This past month craft take-home projects included advent wreaths and manger scenes. Coloring pages of saints are left around the time of their respective feast days. The goal here is too celebrate our church and the many individuals who serve as role models today. Many of these saints founded religious orders.
2. Plans for December-June.
Vocation Awareness with St. Francis and a San Damiano Cross On Sunday, December 31st, the Feast of The Holy Family, we will be blessing three San Damiano Crosses made in Assisi, Italy. Each cross will travel home with members of our parish community for one week with a vocation prayer written by St. Francis.
Can You Find Me? I’m in Your Church. Beginning in February, we will be emphasizing the various statues in our church by leaving a coloring page and a brief biography of the saint. Our hope is that parishioners, particularly children, will become more familiar with these saints and grow a deeper appreciation for their significance to our faith.
3. What has worked for you?
I think there has been a lot of enthusiasm for the materials left on the vocations table. I’m not sure what is actually working. I did need to replenish the holy cards and I am thinking about more craft take-home projects that would appeal to the children. It is hard to gauge what is actually working but I will forward that to you as we move along. I am curious to see how the San Damiano Cross project comes together and how much interest there is in participating.
4. What has not worked? I have noticed that putting announcements in the bulletin regarding the vocations display isn’t enough. If an announcement is made after mass about the materials, more people stop and pick them up.
5. How can we help more? I have found everyone at the vocations office very helpful. I am amazed at how quickly resources such as holy cards are ready to be picked up. I feel very comfortable in asking for assistance and expect to be calling often as we move forward.
Many Blogstream members are there
